World Class Steel Affiliates with USPSA/Steel Challenge

The World Class Steel organization is proud to announce that as of 01/24/08 all documents have been signed and forwarded to USPSA/Steel Challenge to complete the affiliation of World Class Steel with USPSA’s recent acquisition of the Steel Challenge. World Class Steel looks forward to its cooperative effort in working with the administration of USPSA to further develop and expand the steel shooting sport.

With this affiliation, World Class Steel’s "SPEED on STEEL" match will see the return of the commonly recognized Steel Challenge stages to its 2008 match. The seven specific Steel Challenge stages that will be shot at “Speed on Steel 2008” will be announced by World Class Steel in mid-February. The dates for this year’s match are June 13th, 14th and 15th, 2008.

Known as the biggest and premier steel match on the East Coast, the “Speed on Steel” match draws 200 shooters from across the country as well as from Canada. World Class Steel has one of the richest shooters’ raffle and order-of-finish cash awards in the shooting sports in the USA. In quoting John Perciballi, Match Development Director for World Class Steel, “...SPEED on STEEL is the match that gives away guns." The 2007 SPEED on STEEL shooters’ raffle totaled $25,000 in prizes including the 17 guns that were part of the raffle, and competitors’ match awards totaled $5,000 in cash. World Class Steel is working diligently to have the 2008 match exceed the organization's past expectations. This is possible only through the generosity of our great sponsors who have seen fit to support the match in the many years of World Class Steel. These sponsors are some of the top firearms and firearms-related organizations in the industry today. Our match sponsorship roster includes Beretta, Brownell’s, Bushmaster, Cavalry Arms, Caspian, Dick’s, DPMS, FNH-USA, Glock, Harris, Kimber, Lee, Leapers, MGM Targets, Montana Gold, Mossberg, ParaOrdnance, RCBS, Ruger, Safariland, Sierra, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, Starline, Surefire, STI and Zero, among others.

In conjunction with “Speed on Steel” World Class Steel also includes “Side Match Sunday” sponsored by MGM Targets. That day provides a chance for all competitors to compete for additional cash awards as they wait for the match results to be posted that Sunday morning.

Origin and History

World Class Steel began in 2000 when a small group of Old Bridge Rifle and Pistol Club members who shot at our club’s informal steel matches discerned the growing interest in steel shooting and foresaw the need for a more organized, standardized, regularly scheduled static steel match of the highest caliber. This led to the reinstitution of the World Class Steel Shooting discipline as a regularly scheduled monthly “League Match” on our club’s calendar.

During the following years, the popularity of these monthly club matches among both members and non-members of our club generated a growing interest among those shooters for us to give thought to the organization and implementation of a larger, more comprehensive static steel match of major magnitude. Subsequently, World Class Steel, with John Soltesz as Match Director, held its first annual major match in 2003 when we attracted 112 participants despite a very short planning interval. Just a year later, participation in our 2004 event increased and expanded to 150 competitors. In 2005 further competitor interest encouraged us to again expand our match to accommodate the increase to 200 competitors. That is the number to which our matches have been limited and we are trying to keep that limitation for this year. Generous prize contributions by quality firearms-related organizations, participation by world-class shooters and competent match organization and direction all combine not only to make these matches the resounding successes that they are but also have helped our “Speed on Steel” match evolve into the premier static steel match on the East Coast.

THE STEEL MILL

October 25th 2007

Dear Competitors:

The World Class Steel Fields of Steel 2007 match held on October 6th and 7th was a resounding success thanks to all of our shooters and to our generous sponsors. The staff and I would like to thank Absolute Construction and Plumbing, MGM Targets, Hi Point Firearms, Charter Arms, and our newest sponsor Russian American Armory for their support in the match. Of course we would also like to thank the Old Bridge Rifle and Pistol Club board of trustees for allowing us to use the outdoor facility for the weekend. And last but not least you the competitors for whom without, any of this would be possible.

The weather was picture perfect for the fall weekend making the match all the better. And speaking of the match itself, let’s thank Danny Lisk for doing a great job of coordinating the field staff’s target placement and for doing so much of the actual physical work himself.

As in the past thanks to the efforts of John Perciballi, we were again able to conduct the shooters raffle and once again award numerous firearms to the competitors. Thanks John for all the hours of work you donate to our endeavors.

The shooting season is starting to wind down for the year and the last matches for the 2007 year for World Class Steel will be Sunday November 4th for knockdown steel and Saturday November 10th for static steel. Come out for the last matches of the season.

The dates for the 2008 season are set and applications will be up on the website as soon as we all recover form the match. There will be a few changes for the 2008 season with respect to the start times. The Speed on Steel 2008 match slated for the 13th and 14th of June will see set-up done on Thursday the 12th and the RO’s shooting in the afternoon. There will be one start time, at 9:00 am, on Friday and Saturday. Sunday the 15th will be the Side Match Sunday event with a start time of 9:00 am. The Fields of Steel 2008 Pistol Knockdown Match will be held on Saturday, October 4th. Set-up for the match will be done on Thursday, October 2nd in the afternoon. The RO’s will shoot on Friday, October 3rd with a 9:00 am start time. The Pistol Match will be a single session with a start at 9:00 am on Saturday, October 4th. The Fields of Steel 2008 Shotgun/Carbine match will be held the next day, as usual, on Sunday October 5th with a start time of 9:00 am. In each of these major match events you can shoot multiple guns on the same squad or, if you wish, you can sign up to shoot with the RO’s.

Also we need RO’s during each of these matches and we will need help setting up and taking down the stages upon completion of the match. If you would like to help, send us an e-mail at our website with your contact information. If need be, we will hold a Range officer class in late winter or early spring for all who are interested. Also, there are thoughts of holding a class for new shooters of static steel; if you or someone would be interested in taking a class to learn about shooting steel, let us know by using our contact information at our website, www.WorldClassSteel.com.

The staff of World Class Steel would like to take a moment to wish you and yours a great holiday season and thank you for all your support. Remember shoot fast but always safe and as always, its all about speed and attitude.
